The 10 rules for being human!

1.You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's yours to keep for the entire period.
2.You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, "life."
3.There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."
4.Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5.Learning lessons does not end. There's no part of life that doesn't contain its lessons. If you're alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
6."There" is no better a place than "here." When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."
7.Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8.What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9.Your answers lie within you. The answers to life's questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10.You will forget all this.

These rules are by Cherie Carter-Scott and I found them through Stumbleupon on this link: http://www.bluinc.com/free/human10.htm

Inspiring words!

I am Third Day fan! For those who are unfamiliar with them - they are a Christian rock band from the US.

Thet have won many awards over the years and have toured the world extensively. Their latest album "Move" was released last October and is really cool and encouraging.

One of the songs is call "What have you got to lose?" and is really thought provoking and really relevant to everybody of all religions! The lyrics are below.

I love the words and love the song too.
Have a read and see what you think. I will try and get the video on this blog soon.

"What Have You Got To Lose?"

Sin and shame
Guilt and pain
Pride and your conceit
Here and now
Lay them down
At the Savior's feet

What have you got to lose
What have you got to lose
And tell me why you're so afraid
What have you got to lose
What have you got to lose
Think of all you have to gain

Hope and dreams
And all the things
That you have ever made
It don't mean much
If in the end
You have lost your way

Let go of all you know
Only then can life be found
Surrender all you hold
Lay it down, lay it down, lay it down

Cheer up!

I am one of the fortunate people that enjoy my job and do not in anyway dread getting up in the morning and going to work. Sometimes , as everybody finds, it's difficult to get up but that's life and we all get through it. I am not professing to be Mr super energetic and positive all the time!

Having said this, there are obviously people who are in the awful state of the opposite of the above and hate work and every minute of it.

There are other people who are just rude! Our local veggie shop that we frequent regularly is the prime example. Every time I go there (without fail) the cashiers are just rude and unhelpful. I have worked with people in that situation before where some people can be very rude and horrible at times but there is NEVER a reason to be rude EVER.

To those people - Please cheer up. Nothing can be so bad that you have to spread the misery to others. I understand that it's hard work to keep positive but its well worth the effort. If you are that unhappy rather leave the job and get someone who is happy to be there do it!

It was a rugby spectacle!

Although the Sharks lost, the rugby spectacle was superbly obvious at Twickenham, London yesterday. A real showing of what the southern hemisphere has to offer!

Take the stairs!

I now work in a building on the 5th floor. The options to get to the office are the lift or the stairs.
Yesterday, i made a decision to take the stairs whenever possible or convenient. I know 5 floors seems a lot of stairs but given my age and health status (excellent), I can easily make the stairs every morning and afternoon. It also gets my heart going a little faster than the lift would without making me sweat.

I challenge you to take the stairs, however, there are exceptions or provisos to this challenge :
  1. If you work on the 42nd floor - the stairs may be a little too much to handle as well as the lift is going to be quicker!
    1. Suggestion: do a few floors and catch the lift from there in the morning.
    2. take the stairs in the afternoon down and then take the lift.
  2. If you are in any way affected by health issues - NB do not try this without consulting your doctor first!!!
  3. If you have no stairs to work or the stairs are not available - obviously you cannot do this!
  4. Next time you go shopping in a supermarket with more than one floor - use the stairs if possible.
Let me know how it goes!!

Be still (Part 2)

This is going to sound really strange but I really ask you to try it!

When driving in your car (to wherever you go - be it work, gym, dropping kids off etc etc) - try driving with no radio / CD / mp3 player on.
To take it to the next level - when you normally plug your ipod / mp3 player into your ears, try doing whatever you were doing without it. it may seem weird and unusual but it can be very relaxing.

Try it. You never know!

Learn to deal with the Pricks!

It was the coldest winter ever.   Many animals died because of the cold.

The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided to   group together. They were covered and protected, but the quills of each wounded the closest companion. After a while, they decided to distance themselves, and they began to die, alone and frozen.

So,   they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely, they decided to go back to being together.  They learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by their close relationships because the most important part was the heat that came from the others. They were   able to survive..

The   best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people, but the one that forms when individuals learn to live with the imperfections and admire the good qualities of others.

The Moral of the story:

LEARN TO DEAL WITH THE PRICKS IN YOUR LIFE!

Be still (Part 1)

I really do not like having business and noise around me so I am going to share how I manage to be "still"

Leave your cell phone at home / switch it off.
  • A cell phone is for your own convenience. It is not there so everybody can get hold of you when they want to.  If you do not want to be disturbed - turn it off or give it to your secretary to answer and take messages. Before cell phones - the owners of big companies still managed to run the company without having to talk on their way home whilst driving! Get someone to take a message and phone them back.
  • Leave it at home. We are fortunate enough to live in walking distance of the local shop - we often leave both our phones at home ON PURPOSE! It's a nice time to walk and talk.
Try it! It may be scary at first but you will enjoy it!

How does one become a "professional blogger"

I have now got that question properly entrenched in my head. How do you go from blogging  for "fun" to getting paid to write stuff on your blog?
So I ask the question of you - How does one do it?

Officially unemployed!

Its been a rough day and in fact a 2 weeks!

It started last week with a number of issues that surfaced at work. I was informed that I have a negative attitude - true sometimes and I admit that I do tend to go that way first but given 2 days or so, I am back to myself and carry on.
Yesterday, the poo really did hit the fan and this resulted in "irretrievable breakdown in relationships" ie: I no longer have a job!

This I am taking pretty hard (as can be expected) but its an opportunity to move forward from here and not look back and try and disect something I do not understand because this results in going backwards and nothing positive come of it.

Haver fun!

Thinking!

If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you think you can't
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

Time to make a change

As you might be aware - I am blessed to be able to commute on a bicycle to work. I do it about 2 / 3 times a week. Yesterday, i decided to take a longer route to work as I would like to get my training mileage up and also because I get bored with the same route day after day.

I was nearing the last hill and having a good ride when i suddenly could not change my front cog into the higher gear! I slowed down - now getting frustrated and worried - to see what happened. I discovered that my gear cable had frayed enough not to work properly!

The change comes into play like this. Last year I bought a set of rims to replace the current set I have (they are getting tired). The front rim went on almost straight away but the back rim had no cassette. Cassettes are costly and I did not have the money to do it at that stage. My wife and I discussed this quandary and came up with this: The money i would be saving on petrol by riding to work would be saved to buy me a new cassette and the necessary service to install it.

So when my gear cable broke - the change needed to happen sooner than later - so my reliable machine is going in today and its going to get a new rear wheel!
