When Being Selfish Is Not Selfish

Selfish (adjective)
1. Devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others.
2. Characterized by or manifesting concern or care only for oneself: selfish motives.
That is the definition of the word selfish according to dictionary.com but I believe that doing something for yourself is not selfish.

Back from holiday!

Good morning to you all!
We have been away in the berg for 5 days so have not posted anything to this blog during that time. I have however, managed to jot some things down about the holiday and will post them later.

Cheers,

Be still (Part 2)

This is going to sound really strange but I really ask you to try it!

When driving in your car (to wherever you go - be it work, gym, dropping kids off etc etc) - try driving with no radio / CD / mp3 player on.
To take it to the next level - when you normally plug your ipod / mp3 player into your ears, try doing whatever you were doing without it. it may seem weird and unusual but it can be very relaxing.

Try it. You never know!

So here is the plan!

So as you are probably aware - I lost my job on Friday last week. This is the plan going forward:

Send my CV out to any ad placed in various places for a job that looks suitable,
Study at least 3 hours a day until I get that job,
Advertise www.steggiesplace.com and promote the great opportunity it is to bring some money in,
STAY POSITIVE about this time being a way to move forward.

Here we go!

Time to make a change

As you might be aware - I am blessed to be able to commute on a bicycle to work. I do it about 2 / 3 times a week. Yesterday, i decided to take a longer route to work as I would like to get my training mileage up and also because I get bored with the same route day after day.

I was nearing the last hill and having a good ride when i suddenly could not change my front cog into the higher gear! I slowed down - now getting frustrated and worried - to see what happened. I discovered that my gear cable had frayed enough not to work properly!

The change comes into play like this. Last year I bought a set of rims to replace the current set I have (they are getting tired). The front rim went on almost straight away but the back rim had no cassette. Cassettes are costly and I did not have the money to do it at that stage. My wife and I discussed this quandary and came up with this: The money i would be saving on petrol by riding to work would be saved to buy me a new cassette and the necessary service to install it.

So when my gear cable broke - the change needed to happen sooner than later - so my reliable machine is going in today and its going to get a new rear wheel!
